I done been through a whole lot
Trial, tribulation, but I know God
Satan wanna put me in a bow tie
Pray that the holy water don’t go dry, yeah yeah
As I look around me
So many motherfuckers wanna down me
But an enemigo never drown me
In front of a dirty double-mirror they found me
Genre: Hip Hop/Rap
Why I Love It: It has been awhile since I’ve posted and I’m sure my previous posts of 2020 will explain why, but it has been even longer since I have posted hip hop, I try to avoid posting rap music as it is my go to genre and passion, and if I start I will likely never stop.
However, reflecting on the reasons it has been awhile since I have posted, it has also been awhile since I have actually listened to music in order to feed my soul, depression somehow takes us away from what we really love. I spent a lot of time during this phase trying to find music I can relate to again, music that would inspire me. I spent days sitting at my desk just trying to feel… something. Kendrick Lamar has been a MC I’ve loved since I first heard him on a Shwayze Track (shout out Buzzin’) in 2011. What I love most about this song is that Kendrick does not denounce the trials and tribulations of life, nor the evil in the world. Kendrick is a realist, but at the same time he believes, and he knows that true happiness resides within himself and places his trust in the divine. This has been a great song to listen to since I’ve been down in that regard, after placing my happiness and love in a person, it reminds, as the hook suggests, to love myself.
